When it comes to shaving, every man has his preferences. some men prefer to shave with a cream, other prefer to use foams found in supermarkets, and some men put both of these products under the same category, despite their clear differences, so they “pick and mix” from time to time.
What we don’t realize most of the times is that our preferences are set by following what others do or what we think others do when we watch a TV commercial. It is important to learn the differences between a good shaving cream and canned shaving foam, because one of them is better than the other by far!
Shaving Foams – The Convenient Alternative
You see canned shaving foams in any supermarket, right next to the shaving razors. They are the easiest products you can find for shaving because they are easy to use and don’t cost very much. Using canned shaving foams is pretty simple, you just shake the can, push the dispenser and then apply the foam on your face and neck. you can even use these foams with a shaving cream warmer dispenser.
The main purpose of these foams is to help the razor glide easily over the skin, some of them contain extra ingredients such as aloe vera which help soothing the skin after the passing of the razor, but there’s little more of it.
Shaving foams are great for men who are starting to shave or don’t have too much beard. I used these foams when I was younger, about 15 when I started shaving and it was very helpful, but the truth is that foams can’t compare with a high quality shaving cream.
Shaving Creams – The Quality Alternative
Good quality shaving creams are more expensive than canned foams or gels, but the investment is totally worth it. A shaving cream contains ingredients that not only help the razor glide smoothly over your skin, but they also help softening your beard so hair comes off easily with the razor. On top of that they protect your skin and keep it moisturized and nourished after each shaving session.
Testing the quality of shaving cream is very easy, just apply it on your face and neck and massage the area with circular motions for about 1 minute to help the cream do its job on our facial hair. Then proceed to shaving. You’ll notice that there is minimal hair pulling or tugging, which is great especially if you have sensitive skin.
There are different shaving creams in the market, so it is a good idea to pick one that has been formulated for your skin type. If you have sensitive skin you might want to try a shaving cream with fewer ingredients and with extra protection against irritation.
When it comes to shaving cream we have more flexibility. So for example, if you have black skin, you can find an alternative that better helps you fight off common issues with thick, coarse hair including razor bumps and ingrown hair.
Conclusion
Shaving creams are much superior to canned foams, but that doesn’t mean foams are useless. They will help the razor glide but won’t provide benefits beyond that. If you are serious about getting a good shave and taking care of your skin, using a shaving cream is a must.
